Iannis Delatolas was born in Germany in 1971, raised in Greece, and emigrated to the United States at eighteen.

In the mid-1990s in New York, he met photographer David Armstrong, who lent him a Rolleiflex and invited him to audit his aesthetics classes at the International Center of Photography. He also studied darkroom printing technique with Marcus Leatherdale.

Delatolas has presented solo exhibitions in New York at Kouros Gallery, the Italian Academy at Columbia University, and the Chocolate Factory Theater, as well as at the Greek Embassy in Washington, D.C.

His work has appeared in group exhibitions in the United States and Europe, including the LGBT Community Center in New York, and in publications by Rizzoli such as Brooklyn Photographs Now and New York: A Photographer’s City, as well as in The First Time I Met Frank O’Hara: Reading Gay American Writers by Rick Whitaker (Four Walls Eight Windows, 2003).


In 2001, he collaborated with Robert Wilson on the opera Prometheus, incorporating compositions by Iannis Xenakis.

Au milieu des années 1990, à New York, il rencontre le photographe David Armstrong, qui lui prête un Rolleiflex et l’invite à suivre ses cours d’esthétique à l’International Center of Photography. Il apprend également la technique du tirage argentique auprès de Marcus Leatherdale.
